The year 2010 marks the centennial of Canada's Navy. The Navy celebrates this anniversary by offering concerts across the country.  The Performances entitled "Sailors and Songs - A Musical Tribute to 100 Years of Service to Canada" will be top quality entertainment with a variety of music that will appeal to a wide range of people.

In each community the Navy has partnered with a sponsor charity that receives the full proceeds from the concert.  In the Comox Valley the sponsor is YANA – www.yanacomoxvalley.com, helping families who have to leave the Comox Valley for their children’s medical needs. 

The Naden Band is Canada’s West Coast Navy Band -  www.nadenband.ca.  The 35 professional musicians with guest vocalists Ken Lavigne and Stephanie Greaves are tasked with bringing goodwill to the citizens of our country.  These featured soloists have many years of performing experience and bring to the concert a very special flair.  Ken Lavigne, an emerging lyrical tenor recently did his Carnegie Hall debut and has been compared to Andrea Bocelli.  Stephanie Greaves covers the jazz and pop genre and joins with Ken for some heart moving duets.  In past performances there was not a dry eye on the house during some of the more stirring selections. 

This concert will be a review of music over the century with a sailing theme.  The music will range from songs popular during World War One to the big band era, Stan Rogers (Northwest Passage) and even Rod Stewart (Sailing).  Video presentations will also cover the development of technology as we start with black and white photos, moving to colour and finally to video with various effects.  This concert has something for everyone and will be very good entertainment at a reasonable price.  As a memento of the Navy Centennial, all audience members will receive a complimentary copy of the CD "Sailors and Songs" recently recorded by the Naden Band with Ken Lavigne and Stephanie Greaves.
